GUYS AND DOLLS

GUYS AND DOLLS in the Tatum Theatre at The University of Southern Mississippi. Rather than a traditional, massive production of Guys and Dolls, the design team came to the conclusion to produce a smaller scale ‘chamber’ production – focusing on the poetry and meaning of the music and lyrics. The lighting design shaped the world of the play by taking the most romantic elements of the literal settings and using them to suggest the locations in a whimsical pastiche of New York City. Ranging from textured, angular city streets to plain, clean mission interiors, the design of Guys and Dolls helps to ask whether it is better to follow the fold or to take the gamble.
